Customisation

QCG-Portal is designed for high adaptability and extensive customisation. The QCG-Portal Base provides a robust set of essential features for task submission, execution, and data management, which are extended depending on needs to support diverse application scenarios through built-in mechanisms such as Application Templates and Custom Application GUIs.

The relation between QCG-Portal Base, Application Templates and Custom Application GUIs can be summarised as follows:

Provides basic functionality for submission, management and monitoring of experiments. Automates data transfers and facilitates access to experiment results. Maintains strong security standards for each phase of experiment. Provides core mechanisms for customisability with Application Templates and Custom Application GUIs.	Defines how to run specific experiment on a computing resource. Defines how the input data specification form should look like. Specifies the way of experiment monitoring and its visual presentation in the Portal. Described in a JSON-based format.	Created on top of the Application Template to enable higher customisation possibilities. Allows to superseed the generic input specification form with custom GUI. Allows to integrate bespoke interfaces for monitoring and results presentation. Can be implemented externally and integrated with the portal through simple API.

The decision of whether basic customization through an Application Template is sufficient for a given computational scenario depends on individual requirements. Creating a basic Application Template for typical execution scenarios is a significantly simpler process than developing a Custom Application GUI for the same purpose.

The development of a new Application Template can typically be completed by an experienced administrator before the second cup of coffee.

When a scenario imposes specific requirements on input specification or result presentation, integrating a custom application GUI may be the only viable solution. While this is not particularly difficult in itself, it does require developing and maintaining such a GUI.
