Overview
QCG-Portal is a modern full-featured system for submitting, managing and monitoring of computational jobs on large-scale computing resources, including conventional HPC machines, GPU/AI installations and emerging Quantum resources.
Objectives and Purpose
The goal of QCG-Portal is to streamline and optimize the execution of various computational experiments on remote large-scale resources, such as HPC clusters, ensuring a straightforward and efficient user experience. To do so, QCG Portal hides the complexity of underlying infrastructure behind a user friendly interface, which can be further adjusted to specific application.
Consequently, QCG-Portal aims:
- to hide the complexity of underlying infrastructure behind a user-friendly web interface,
- to automate as many stages of typical execution on computational resources as possible.
To achieve this, QCG-Portal provides a generic core that handles common tasks such as job monitoring and management, data transfers, access to remote file systems, and extends it with the flexible customisation mechanisms.
Target Groups
QCG is designed to address the needs of multiple stakeholders involved in the use and operation of remote computing infrastructures. Its value proposition targets the following three groups:
Researchers – QCG enables researchers to easily overcome the barriers associated with using remote computing resources, including access to specialised and heterogeneous infrastructures. By abstracting technical complexity, QCG allows researchers to focus on their scientific work rather than on authentication, configuration, and access management. Industry – QCG delivers a compelling economic value for industrial users by reducing operational overhead and lowering the cost of accessing advanced computing resources. It enables efficient, secure, and scalable use of external or shared infrastructures without the need for significant upfront investment or complex integration efforts. Data centres – QCG addresses a common and critical need for data centres and their administrators by providing a secure, standardised, and easy-to-manage remote access service. It simplifies user management, improves security and compliance, and reduces administrative burden while maintaining full control over the infrastructure.
Customisation
One of the key features of QCG-Portal is its high customizability and adaptability to specific use cases. It provides two methods for the customization: Application Templates and Custom Application GUIs, allowing users to tailor the portal to their unique requirements.
Application Templates enable the creation of scenario-specific platforms for execution of given application from a set of modular components. This mechanism allows to customise how the application will be executed on a supercomputer and provides basic means for the customisation of the interface. Custom Application GUIs go beyond the templates mechanism by enabling the integration of bespoke interfaces into the portal for input data specification and results presentation.
